TROY, N.Y. -- Two teens have been charged with murder. Now two more. Their community asks when it will end.
"We have to do something," said Missing Link Street Ministry Pastor Willie Bacote. "There has to be a solution. There has to be a way that we can put a stop to this because if we don't we're failing our youth."
Eric Mallard, 19, and Ravenal Dunbar, 17, are the second pair to be arrested in connection to the stabbing death of Takim Smith, 21. It happened Monday night inside a Corliss Park apartment for reasons police can't yet explain.
"There've been a lot of search warrants that have been executed," said Troy Police Captain Dan DeWolf. "We're looking at a lot of different video and it's ongoing."
But North Troy community members say learning a motive won't bring them closure.
"We're going to sit at the table and find the solutions to the problems that are plaguing our community," said Bacote.
Four teens in jail and maybe more according to police, is four teens too many, community members say. They can have bright futures. We have to help them.
"You would imagine at that age you would be out enjoying life and living life to the fullest," said Bacote. "Now you're sitting up in an enclosed cage with bars and contemplating how long you'll spend the rest of your life in prison."
