ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- It's a sad day for Ulster County fire houses, as firemen lined Route 209 to say good bye to long-time Kerhonksen fire chief Wayne DePew. He died of cancer on Sunday at age 62.

Many of the people who turned out for DePew's funeral say he taught them everything they know about firefighting.

"He was my go-to guy any time I needed anything You know, it's good having a state fire instructor who knew everything there is to know. If I had any problems, I called Wayne. He's right down the road. He was there to answer questions," said Stone Ridge Fire Chief Paul Bogart.

"Just a great guy, really cared about the fire service tremendously," Accord Fire Chief Paul Rider said.

DePew is survived by his children and grandchildren, as well as his wife, Penny.
