UNITED STATES -- With the potential for strong winds and a lot of snow, the American Red Cross has a few tips to help people with storm preparations.

The Red Cross recommends assembling an Emergency Preparedness kit by packing a coat, hat, gloves, water-resistant boots, warm clothing, and extra blankets.

Make sure you're stocked with non-perishable food items, bottled water, flashlights and a battery-powered radio with extra batteries in the event of a power outage. Don’t forget a fully stocked first aid kit.

The Red Cross also suggests keeping sand or cat litter on hand to help make walkways less slippery.

Also, make sure your gas tank is full, that will help to keep the fuel line from freezing.
