Warrensburg man arrested for welfare fraud

WARREN COUNTY, N.Y. -- Warren County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Warrensburg man who they say collected nearly $6,000 in public assistance benefits that he was not legally entitled to.

Deputies say following an investigation with social services, they learned Robert Gary Neuweiler, 60, failed to accurately report his total household income and composition when applying for Home Energy Assistance Program benefits from 2008 through 2012.

Deputies say Neuweiler’s HEAP applications showed he reported living in a single family home, and did not receive any rent money from tenants.

But tax records show he owns or co-owns three separate properties, two of which have rental apartments.

He was arraigned and bail was set at $10,000 cash.
