Charges filed after deputy was almost hit by car

WHITEHALL, N.Y. -- A Whitehall man is facing reckless endangerment charges after authorities say he almost hit a Washington County Sheriiff's deputy with a car.

According to the Sheriff's office, deputies responded to a house on Ryder Road in the Town of Whitehall Thursday afternoon. They say Raymond Steves, 53, drove up to the house at a high rate of speed and almost hit a neighboring house.

They say the deputy then yelled to Steves to turn the car off but he refused, put the car into reverse and then back into drive. They say that's when he almost hit the deputy.

Steves was eventually taken into custody. He was arraigned and sent to Washington County Jail.
