Schenectady Police Officers Credited With Saving Pets from Fire

By: YNN Staff

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A Schenectady police officer is recovering after helping save 5 pets from a burning building. The fire broke out at a home on Foster avenue around 1-30 this morning.

Schenectady Police tell us when they arrived, everyone had already made it out of the home safely. However, they were told there were 3 dogs and 2 birds still in the building. That's when 6 officers jumped into action to save the animals.

Schenectady Police Officer Matt Dearing says, "The Animals were all okay, no injuries to them. One officer sustained a dog bite to his hand from one of the dogs that was rescued from inside."

The officer who was bitten, was treated at Ellis hospital and is expected to be ok. The American Red Cross is currently providing assistance to the people displaced by the fire. No word yet on what caused the fire.
