CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- Senator Chuck Schumer is meeting with Capital Region hospital executives to push for a change in the Medicare law.

Schumer says so-called "observation days" are costing seniors thousands each year. He says Medicare should cover hospital stays when they include an "observation day."

Schumer is using the story of one St. Peter's patient to illustrate his point. He says the man's three week rehab with a broken pelvis wasn't covered by Medicare because he was listed under "observation status."

Stay with YNN for more on Schumer's proposal later today.
