SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Bars could soon be banned from taking part in pub crawls.
New York City Assemblyman Micah Kellner is introducing legislation that would punish any bar caught sponsoring a bar crawl. Bars often sponsor crawls, offering discounted drinks for groups of people hopping from bar to bar.
Saratoga Springs is in the midst of Beer Week and bar owners say they make sure their patrons are always responsible. They also say such a ban would cut into their bottom line, especially during upcoming St. Patrick's Day.
“I'm actually kind of shocked because most of the people who come through with a pub crawl are doing it to benefit an organization that really, really needs money,” said Kim Smith, manager of Gaffney’s.
“I would definitely be opposed to that, because we've never really had any issues here," said Christy Javlonski of The Parting Glass Bar.
The proposed ban is still in the planning stages. It would need to be still passed by both houses of the state legislature.
