SCHOHARIE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Town of Wright woman is facing animal abuse charges after authorities say they found more than 100 cats inside her home.
Last month, the Schoharie County Sheriff's office along with the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley and Schenectady County SPCA took the animals from the home.
On Monday, Irene VanDyke, 50, was arrested. She is charged with failure to provide proper sustenance and cruelty to animals. Authorities say the animals were living in deplorable conditions and dozens of cats were found dead inside a freezer.
VanDyke is due back in court March 11th.
The surviving animals were taken to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley and are ready to be adopted. Anyone interested can call the shelter at (518) 296-8390.
