TROY, N.Y. -- The Troy police sergeant accused of trying to solicit sex from a 14-year-old has pleaded guilty. Patrick Rosney, 53, pleaded guilty to attempted dissemination of indecent material to a minor.
Last June, Rosney was arrested after police say he tried to send sexually explicit images and messages to who he thought was a 14-year-old girl. He was actually talking with a New York City Police Department undercover detective.
Rosney was a 26-year veteran of the Troy Police Department and retired shortly after his arrest. He is expected to receive five years probation and a $5,000 fine when he is sentenced in May. He is also required to complete a sex offender program and must register as a sex offender.
