TOWN OF THOMPSON, N.Y. -- “Five rooms, a kitchen…that’s a lot of stuff,” said Victor.

Victor remained as calm and collected as possible as he sifted through the charred remains of his Lakeshore Drive trailer-camper that burned to the ground Sunday morning.

“It was a fully involved trailer when we got here,” said Monticello Fire Chief Marc Friedman.

The Brooklyn man was visiting for a weekend of relaxation and fresh air when he woke up to noises around 9 a.m. He said he stepped outside to find his home up in flames.

“We had a hard time getting there due to the icy road conditions. We had two fire trucks stuck. We had a town sand truck come and sand before we even got to the fire,” said Friedman.

In that time, the fire had spread, destroying a second trailer and damaging a third. Victor tried to rescue some belongings, but left with only a minor burn to his neck. His home of eight years was a complete loss.

“It’s too late. Thirty minutes, and all of the house is gone,” said Victor.

Chief Friedman said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but it doesn’t appear to be suspicious. In the meantime, Victor says he plans on leaving the campgrounds for good and buying another seasonal home elsewhere.

“Everything is fine. Forget it,” said Victor.
