ALBANY, N.Y. -- If given the choice, former Guilderland and UAlbany standout Drew Smith probably would have preferred to be the Great Danes Quarterback, but he's surely thanking Bob Ford right now because Ford made him a running back and Smith is generating some NFL interest.
He spent Wednesday at Fordham University for a pro day going through drills in front of scouts. Smith ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 in front of scouts from the Jets, Giants, Bills, Saints, Jaguars, Seahawks, Packers and Buccaneers.
According to his agent, JR Rickert, Smith spent the most time talking with the scout from the Tampa Bay. The Guilderland native would likely be a free agent, but there is an outside chance he could be a late round draft pick.
