ALBANY, N.Y. -- An Albany correctional officer finds himself on the wrong side of the law after police said he assaulted an inmate at Albany County Correctional Facility.

Authorities believe Craig Strizzi conspired with two other inmates to assault a third inmate. They said Strizzi, a 15-year veteran of the Albany County Sheriff's Office, grabbed the victim as he was leaving the recreation yard, held him against a wall, and beat him up with two other inmates.

Authorities said Strizzi then filed reports stating he was defending himself, and that the other inmates were coming to his aide.

He's facing a number of charges, including unlawful imprisonment, a felony, and misdemeanor assault and conspiracy charges.

Strizzi was suspended without pay, and was arraigned and released on $7,500 bail.

Police said criminal charges will be filed against the inmates they believe conspired with Strizzi.
