RENSSELAER, N.Y. -- Students from around the area put their minds to the test in the annual Odyssey of the Minds Tournament. The event featured 75 teams from Rensselaer, Columbia, and Greene counties competing in different challenges.
The students had to use their creativity and problem-solving skills to compete. Judges scored them based on how well they solved the problems. Some of these problems were rehearsed by students for months, while others had to be solved on the spot.
"It's an international program that lets kids, kindergarten through 12th grade solve open-ended problems in a team situation, totally on their own. In fact, the motto of the program is hands-on for kids, hands off for adults," said Arlene Sampson, Odyssey of the Mind Regional Director.
The teams that win this tournament will move on to the statewide competition at Binghamton University on March 23rd.
