WYNANTSKILL, N.Y. -- "I'm going to read the paper, have a cup of coffee," said Dan Wilson Jr.
It's 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and while others are eating breakfast, Wilson's thinking of lunch and that he wants to have it at Jack's Drive-In in Wynantskill.
"Can't wait," he said.
But he did wait, for three-and-half-hours! That's because the Wynantskill mainstay opens for the season at 11 a.m.
"My wife and son double-dog-dared me to be customer number one," said Wilson.
The smell of fried onions started teasing Wilson around 10 a.m. Manager Al Deeb says he's thankful for such enthusiastic customers.
"It's a good feeling to see the customers come and the community," he said. They love Jack's."
So by 11 a.m., the line wrapped around the building and Wilson finally got to place his order.
"It was worth the three-and-a-half-hour wait in the rain, wind, so it was good," said Wilson.
After him, the orders just kept coming.
"It's just really good! You can't get it anywhere else, it's a different taste," said one customer.
"It's a great thing, it really is. What they do in here is amazing. They really have some great burgers," said another.
"Just want to thank the customers for being a part of us for 75 years," said Deeb. "They're like family to us."
Jack's Drive-In is open daily until November from 11 a.m. to 8:45 p.m.
