FULTON COUNTY, N.Y. -- "We saved money by changing bus routes, we saved money by making a lot of cuts to our energy programs, lowering water temperatures and thirdly, we saved a good chunk of money on health insurance," said Business Administrator Marco Zumbolo.
Broadalbin-Perth Central School saved $584,000 to be exact and now they'll be getting 90 percent of that money back over the next three years.
Superintendent Stephen Tomlinson said, "We know this money is going to go directly to the students through the use of some really exciting technology, whether it be iPads or whether it be smart boards."
And school administrators took the grant process a little further, allowing teachers to apply for the money to use in their specific classes.
"I applied for a 3D projector, which I was able to get on loan last year and within the short week that I had it, it changed the way I taught and the way that kids perceived education in general," said Brian Henry.
Biology teacher Brian Henry says the opportunities new technology will bring are endless.
"This offers an array of opportunities for students to learn that may not do the best in a paper pencil situation, they're going to be excited to come to class," said Henry.
Teacher William Eipp J.R. said, "It's hands on everything and its high end technology and they're excellent at it."
And with a daunting reality of school financial problems state wide, Superintendent Stephen Tomlinson says this grant proves the district’s many trips to the Capital put them on the map.
Tomlinson said, "The most important thing I think any school district or board of education can know is don't give up and make sure they know who you are."
