UNITED STATES -- It turns out the head coach of UAlbany’s Friday opponent takes a little piece of the Capital Region with him wherever he goes.

If you look closely at Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski, you’ll notice he wears a green bracelet on his right wrist. That bracelet was given to Coach K by the parents of Deanna Rivers, who, as you’ll remember, was killed in a car accident on the Northway last December.

The Rivers’ are big Duke fans and when Coach K found out about the tragedy, he invited them down for a game in North Carolina. Coach K was touched by their story and wears the bracelet as a constant reminder.

"I'd rather keep it a private thing, but the thing that I'm wearing, though I've worn since they visited Duke. We invited them to come down and spend a week, spend a game, have a game experience and Brian and Debby gave us some things and one of them was the bracelet and I told them I would wear it. So it's an easy thing to do. It's an amazing tragedy. I have three daughters and eight grandkids and I can't even imagine, I can't even imagine it," Krzyzewski said.

Chris Stewart, Bailey Wind, Matt Hardy and Deanna Rivers were returning from a UAlbany basketball game the night of the accident. Rivers and Stewart were killed. Hardy and Wind survived with serious injuries.
