HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- We're learning new information about the dog killed in the shootings in Herkimer last week.

There were a lot of concerns from the public about if Ape was wearing a bulletproof vest. Police say the FBI K-9 was, in fact, wearing a bulletproof vest during the incident.

Ape was shot and killed during a police raid after Kurt Myers allegedly killed four people and injured two others before hiding out in an abandoned building for about 24 hours.

Police say the vest Ape was wearing is made from the same material as the officers' vests. They want to remind people that although the vests help prevent serious injuries, they do not stop everything.
