Students ask for increased security
By: Capital News 9 web staff
UAlbany students and residents are calling on campus security and city police to beef up patrols.
A recent spike in crime near the university's downtown campus has students and community members concerned for their safety.
While students said they don't see enough police patrolling the neighborhoods, school officials said they are taking the issue seriously.
UAlbany student Anton Koneve said, "Until yesterday, I have not seen a single police officer, either walking on campus patrolling, or when I leave my classes on Washington Avenue."

UAlbany President Dr. Kermit L. Hall said, "I'm very concerned. I live down in that neighborhood as well. We've had several instances and they need to be addressed in a more aggressive fashion."
The students are also asking for the university to work with students to organize safety programs on campus.
