Charges for father expected to be upgraded after baby taken off life support
TROY, N.Y. -- A 4-month-old baby is expected to be taken off life support after he suffered head injuries police said at the hands of his father.
Rensselaer County Child Protective Services contacted Troy police on Sunday regarding 4-month-old Matthew Thomas who was being treated at Albany Medical Center for significant brain damage caused by trauma to the head.
An investigation led to the arrest of the child's father, Adrian Thomas, 26, for second-degree attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning and is being held at Rensselaer County Jail.
After the baby is taken off life support, charges are expected to be upgraded.
Police said Thomas and his wife live at Cedar Park Apartments, where the baby was injured on Friday. Police said Thomas heard the baby crying and threw him back into his crib several times. The couple called for help on Sunday.
Thomas has six other children who are now in the care of the Rensselaer County CPS.
