Father charged after baby critically injured
TROY, N.Y. -- Inside apartment 1C at Cedar Park Apartments is where Troy police say Adrian Thomas, 26, threw his 4-month-old son Matthew into his crib causing severe brain damage.
"That (Matthew) hasn't been acting right since Friday and (my wife) woke me up and said that Matthew wasn't responding," Thomas told police.
Matthew Thomas is in Albany Medical Center on life support. And late Tuesday, the Rensselaer County District Attorney's office was expecting the baby to be taken off of the ventilator. Adrian Thomas would then have his current attempted murder charge upgraded to murder.
Thomas' six other children, including Matthew's twin brother, are now in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Sources say that this is not the first time that Child Protective Services have been called to this apartment complex regarding Thomas. They say his wife has called before, once, regarding when Thomas was hitting her daughter with a belt.
"I knew they had a lot of kids in a two bedroom, that was always weird to me," said a neighbor.
A neighbor who is familiar with the family but didn't want to appear on camera said the couple's son was once found at Right Aid down the street when Thomas was supposed to be watching him. She said the situation is sad but not totally surprising.
"Everything wasn't so normal, just didn't, like something was off there, I felt it," said the neighbor.
Thomas is being held in Rensselaer County Jail.
