Real-life ghostbusters
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Their mission is "to seek the truth.” Their specialty is paranormal investigation.
“A lot of people think they have experiences in their house and they hear footsteps at night when no one is supposed to be home, they'll see something out of the corner of their eye, they'll give us a call," said paranormal investigator Dave Zirpoli.
They're called the Northern New York Paranormal Society and just like real-life ghostbusters, they have all sorts of equipment, including 35 millimeter cameras and infra-red thermometers.
"Digital recorders, we also use as well. Sometimes you're able to catch disembodied voices when you play back the recordings,” Zirpoli said.
Then a call comes in.
"After that, we'll go in with our cameras. We have multiple different equipment and electronic voice phenomenon,” said Zirpoli.

According to investigators, spirits reveal themselves in many forms, such as a vapor, mist or shadow, but either way, if they're ignored, they may make their presence felt even more.
"If you were in a room surrounded by people and everyone was ignoring you, you would get pretty frustrated and you would do to get their attention and once you do get their attention, you're going to keep doing it," Zirpoli said.
The group's latest investigation is at the Lark Tavern in Albany, which actually seems to enhance the tavern's "spiritual side."
"It's one of the oldest buildings in Albany and people have always talked about how it's haunted. It has that gothic feel and we embrace that,” said Lark Tavern owner Tess Collins.
And what type of people are drawn into the world of paranormal investigation?
"Some are scientists, some have physic abilities that they want to use, some are mystics, some actually have had paranormal experiences themselves and some are just curious,” said Dan Lowenski, a scientific phenomenon investigator.
When it comes to catching ghosts and goblins, investigators say it always helps to be in the right place at the right time, but it's also important to keep an open mind as well.
"Those people who experience it need to look for alternative explanations first and if those explanations aren't there, then that's the time to call us up," said Lowenski.
To search for any "wandering spirits."
