TROY, N.Y. -- The Troy Police Department held another gun buyback program, and with dozens of guns getting turned in, they call it a success.

In fact, the program at the Missing Link Ministry Church Saturday was so successful, the department was forced to end it early. The program ran out of gift certificates to award for guns after only two hours.

Troy Police said 80 firearms in all were turned in, including 32 handguns and two shortened shotguns. Pastor Willie Bacote said now they'll have to look to Collar City residents to keep it going.

"So we have to now appeal to the hearts and consciences of the people in the city of Troy, to whomever sees what good this program has brought about to help us establish some sort of fund that we can continue to get these guns off the streets of Troy,” said Pastor Willie Bacote.

A $150 gift card was given out for each functioning weapon turned in.
