Thomas is accused of killing his 4-month-old son last September by repeatedly throwing him on a mattress and shaking him.

Opening arguments and witness testimony began Friday. Prosecutors say Thomas was upset after losing his job and took that anger out on his child. They said he admitted to the crime during a nine-hour taped confession, which will be introduced in court.

Thomas' defense team said he was pressured by police to make a false confession and that the baby really died of an unrelated medical condition.
