TROY, N.Y. -- After a deadly shooting in the City of Troy last week, the mayor and police chief are discussing strategies to fight crime.

Mayor Harry Tutunjian and Chief Nicholas Kaiser held a public meeting Monday night, telling residents despite a spike in crime in the city over the last month, overall, crime is down for the year.

The Troy leaders told residents more cops on streets is their plan to deal with increased crime in certain areas of the city.

But residents in some neighborhoods say more needs to be done, even as the mayor reassured them his plan to combat crime will work.

"We've done it before," said Mayor Tutunjian. "We did it with street crimes. This summer was very quiet. Last summer was pretty quiet in the City of Troy with our street crimes unit being very aggressive and making over 150 arrests in one month. Those are good numbers and the word gets out that Troy's not a place to come to commit crime."

"People are getting robbed at gunpoint," said Troy resident Victoria Lewis. "Kids are getting robbed and beat up on, but in there, they're not talking about that in there."

Meanwhile, the investigation into the deadly shooting on Harrison Street in South Troy last Thursday is ongoing.
