The Department of Transportation is just about finished with construction on the Route 155 roundabout in Colonie near the Northway. Detours have been lifted. Kaitlyn Ross joins us with more on the project.

COLONIE, N.Y. -- The roundabout on Route 155 in Colonie near the Northway is now open to traffic. It's just the latest in the series of roundabouts that have been built in the last couple of years in the Capital Region. The DOT said roundabouts are a safer alternative to the typical intersection in high traffic areas.

"People become accustomed to a signal, sitting at a red signal for 45 seconds to a minute. Meanwhile, cars are running, wasting a lot of time. If we can replace it with a roundabout traffic can get through here slowly and safely, we think it's the best of all worlds,” said NYSDOT spokesman Pete Van Keuren.

Construction is expected to continue at the roundabout for a couple of weeks.
