Truck hits Thruway bridge in Coeymans

COEYMANS, N.Y. -- Coeymans police are investigating an accident on Route 144 where a truck hit an overpass.
Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, a tractor trailer owned by C & C Container Corporation and driven by Arthur Elwell, 53, of Troy, struck the bridge which carries the Berkshire Spur section of the Thruway over Route 144, also known as River Road.
As the truck attempted to go under the bridge, the trailer pierced a bridge beam.
Thruway engineers responded to the scene to examine the damage to the bridge. Repairs are underway, but the extent of the damage is still being processed.
The crash remains under investigation.
