TROY, N.Y. -- As expected, the Troy City Council overrides Mayor Harry Tutunjian's veto of the council's 2010 budget.
The democrat controlled council voted along party lines by a vote of six to three and adopted a $62.7 million spending plan on December 1st. The Republican Mayor then vetoed the spending plan a week later.
The council called a special meeting Monday night just to override the veto.
Tutunjian had some choice words for the democrats' budget for the Collar City.
"It's irresponsible and dysfunctional," Tutunjian said. "The democrats in the City of Troy are mirroring the actions of the democrats in Albany. It's total dysfunction and it's an ignorance of the law."
"The misunderstanding is clearly that the council has the authority to override the mayor's budget and reduce the taxpayers assessment by point five percent more than what the mayor proposed, that's what the bottom line is, that's what this is about," said City Council President Clem Campana.
Tutunjian said he plans to challenge the actions of the council. He calls them wrong and illegal.
