CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- State Police say they've concluded their investigation into the I-90 shooting that took place back on January 10th.
Here's how they break down the events. They say Darrel Brown, 23, of Hartford, Connecticut, was riding in a taxi cab as a passenger when the cab was pulled over for speeding in East Greenbush. Brown had hired the taxi in Connecticut, but police aren't sure exactly where he was headed.
As the trooper spoke to Brown and the driver, Brown suddenly pulled an assault rifle out of his duffle bag. Both the trooper and the driver got away safely before Brown starting firing. As more troopers arrived on the scene, they began exchanging shots with Brown. He was eventually taken down by several bullets and later died at Albany Med.
No bystanders or troopers were hit, though four cars were.
Autopsy reports showed Brown was high on PCP at time of the shooting and though troopers tried to negotiate with him, he began shouting "shoot me" and "kill me."
Police also learned that Brown was a member of the Bloods gang and might have been fleeing to the Capital Region in the taxi because he was suspected by Connecticut police of taking part in an assault and carjacking the night before.
