SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Schenectady police are investigating a pedestrian accident that claimed the life of an elderly woman Saturday night.

Police said Charlotte Gallo, 78, was crossing Broadway near Proctor's Theatre where she volunteered when she was hit by a pickup truck. She was taken to Ellis Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Gallo volunteered at the Proctor's gift shop and was Volunteer of the Year. Those she worked with said she will be greatly missed.

"A wonderful woman who was so full of life and spirit, and she would have volunteered anywhere here at Proctor's. She was always the life of the party wherever you were. If we were in the gift shop, she'd make us laugh. She was just a generally wonderful human being,' said Proctor's volunteer Denise Fuller Paul.

No charges have been filed against the driver.
