SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Two Schenectady police officers who were shot in their upper bodies have been treated and released from Ellis Hospital. They were shot Sunday night as they executed a search warrant at a house on Maple Avenue. It happened around 7:30 p.m.

The two officers were with the special operations squad and were protected by their bullet-proof gear. Schenectady police said they are questioning several people right now.

Schenectady Police Spokesman Sgt. Eric Clifford said, "We do have multiple people detained, and we do have the weapon that was used to fire at the officers, and as of now our crime scene analysts, detectives are analyzing the scene right now."

Sgt. Clifford wouldn't say if the search warrant was connected to the city's first homicide that happened on the same street. Police said Ganesh Ramgoolam, 23, was shot at least five times on Saturday.

Ramgoolam's wife is speaking out about her husband's shooting. Uneesa Alley said he was a family man who worked hard to support his two kids and never broke the law.

"He was not a bad person," she said. "He was not into drugs. He was not into guns, into violence, you know what I mean. He was a homebody with the kids. I don't know why this happened because he's such a sweet person."

Schenectady police are asking that if you have any information about what happened Saturday to give them a call.
