SCOTIA, N.Y. -- Rick Lazio's political campaign is building speed and purpose as he is the only declared gubernatorial candidate after Governor Paterson ended his campaign amidst scandal allegations.

Lazio touted his message to supporters at the Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner in Scotia Wednesday. Lazio told the crowd he recognizes the state's shortfalls and is suggesting a cap on property tax and health care reform as solutions. He says he also wants to create more in-state jobs and return integrity to the government.

Lazio says the allegations against Paterson are just another reason he wants to become Governor and get the state back on track.

"I want to take all this private sector and public sector experience and help my state out. I want to turn this state around. I want to make sure that people feel good, feel pride to be New Yorkers again," said Lazio.

The former House committee member also says he doesn't want Attorney General Andrew Cuomo investigating the alleged Paterson scandal.

Lazio also promises to separate any partisan play from the New York State police department hierarchy.
