Paladino campaign on the defensive
The Paladino campaign was on the defensive Tuesday. Capital Tonight's Kaitlyn Ross tells us why.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- "The fact of the matter is that Carl Paladino is not a racist, he's not a sexist and it's time to get over it," said Paladino Campaign Manager Michael Caputo.
The Paladino campaign was on the defensive today. His Chief of Staff defended the Buffalo millionaire and even went so far as to accuse Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's staff of planting the emails that appeared on a Western New York website as a way to get Paladino out of the race.
"The only email in that group that was produced by the liberal democrat hit machine that went after him this week is one that he actually replied to, and he remembered replying to it. The others, we don't know the authenticity to it. We don't put it beyond them to create it from whole cloth," said Caputo.
Caputo went as far as sending a letter to State Inspector General Joseph Fisch asking him to look in to the leak, but Fisch says he is taking a pass.
"The easy answer is that we have no jurisdiction over the department of law," said Fisch.
Regardless of where the emails originated, Caputo doesn't think they should impact Paladino's gubernatorial run.
"It doesn't matter what the emails he forwarded on said, he's not a supporter of that kind of philosophy," Caputo said.
But the reports are already costing him support. Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa, who was an early supporter of Paladino, now says he is no longer backing his campaign. And Capital Region Republican chairs have pulled an invitation for Paladino to speak at an upcoming forum. Other Republicans are calling on him to bow out gracefully.
"I would imagine from what I'm hearing that they're pretty bad. If they're half as bad as I'm hearing, I would imagine that he will be getting out of the race shortly," said Senator Martin Golden.
Still, Paladino's camp says he's done nothing to warrant dropping his bid.
"Men exchange inappropriate material on the internet every day and if you're telling me you don't do that, I'm telling you I don't believe you," Caputo said.
This type of scandal may have spelled the end for another candidate running for office. When these things break, often fund raising becomes a major problem and the candidate does have to drop out of the race. But Carl Paladino's campaign is self funded. He's pledged $10 million of his own money to the run and he doesn't show any signs of slowing down.
