TROY, N.Y. -- A fatal shooting at a Troy apartment complex is under investigation. Police and SWAT teams swarmed the area for several hours Thursday afternoon shortly after officers responded to a call of shots fired at the Corliss Park Apartments just before 3 p.m.

The victim, a 29-year-old man, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say they got an anonymous tip that the suspect was in an apartment 13-2 of the complex. SWAT teams were called in and surrounded the building. They were able to safely bring an older woman out of the apartment, but after a search, did not turn up the armed suspect.

"We're committed to apprehending him as soon as possible. We'll maintain a high presence here to reassure the people that the Troy Police will do everything to protect them and keep them safe," said Troy Police Assistant Chief Richard McAvoy.

Police say their investigation is in the preliminary stages and are interviewing neighbors, as well as anyone who might know the victim or suspect.
