ALBANY, N.Y. -- A State Trooper was hit by a car while directing traffic in Albany. Officials say it happened around 1 p.m. Thursday when a truck carrying an oversized load was on Washington Avenue Extension and was attempting to make a left turn onto Fuller Road.

Police say the driver of a Jeep failed to follow orders from a trooper on the scene helping direct traffic.

"Unfortunately, the operator of the Jeep behind us apparently didn't see the troop car, she stopped too late. She did have a green light it appears. She struck the troop car. The trooper was standing on the driver's side of his troop car, so what happened is when the chief hit the troop car, the troop car bumped the trooper," said William Keeler with the New York State Police.

The trooper was taken by ambulance to Albany Medical Center. His injuries are not considered life threatening.
