TROY, N.Y. -- A Hudson Valley couple has quite a story to tell. Their summer cruise turned into a bit of a nightmare after their yacht caught fire on the Hudson River and all they could do was watch it burn.

The two were travelling through the Troy lock when they noticed the engine on their 34-footer was smoking.

"We had just come out of the lock. One engine stalled. Put down the anchor. Smoke was coming out. Tried to put it out, the smoke was so think we couldn't see. Couple of other boats coming by, so we could swim over to their boat," said Ed Finnerty.

Finnerty says he's been boating for years and never seen anything like this. Thankfully, he and his wife were not hurt.

Fire crews put out the fire as the yacht drifted toward the shoreline.
