Man who died in police custody identified
TROY, N.Y. -- The man who died while in police custody has been identified.
Troy police say they tried to pull over Herbert Flowers, 31, of Albany Saturday afternoon for driving without a brake light. They say Flowers initially refused to stop but eventually did, and was placed under arrest.
Cops say he appeared to have a white powdered substance around his mouth when placed in the police car. Shortly after, Flowers began to have what appeared to be a seizure.
He was immediately taken out of the car, un-handcuffed, and treated by the Troy Fire Department. After being transported to Samaritan Hospital, he was pronounced dead from what may have been a cocaine-induced overdose.
The investigation is ongoing as toxicology results are being completed.
