ALBANY, N.Y. -- The mayor's task force met to discuss the future of the new Albany parking permit system.
Back in August, Governor Paterson signed the Albany parking bill into law. The law allows the Common Council to impose permit-only parking on residential streets within a three-quarter mile radius of the Empire State Plaza.
City residents had long complained state workers monopolize street parking in the Center Square, Washington Park, Hudson Park and Mansion neighborhoods. Now the task force is trying to figure out the best way to move forward with the permit plan.
"One of the big issues is to resolve the map and have those spots allocated. So we are going to play around with the map in terms of that three-quarter mile radius. We are going to look at some issues related to OGS parking right now what type of availability they have that relates to some state workers issues," said Richard Conti, Common Council President Pro Tempore.
Similar bids failed in the past, but the addition of 4,000new garage parking spots to help state workers find other parking helped move the plan along this time.
