TROY, N.Y. -- The controversy surrounding Troy's old city hall continues as the city council overrules the mayor's plan to move forward with demolition plans. The council held a special finance committee meeting Thursday to address the issue.
Mayor Harry Tutunjian vetoed an ordinance last month that required him to seek approval from the council before the building could be demolished.
Many council members are stuck on what will happen to the land once it's razed and others feel city hall could even return to that location in the future.
Mayor Tutunjian said that's not an option and wants the city to move forward with the project as soon as possible.
The meeting got heated at times.
"Shame on you," said Mayor Tutunjian. "I have plans. I have alternate locations. I have other things I can do, but not one of you have come forward to me to talk about it."
"I'm not a developer," said Troy City Council President Clem Campana. "No one here is a developer. I haven't heard a plan that calls for any development on that site. Leaving it as a grassy knoll is not the way to go."
The state awarded the city almost a million dollars to raze the site and redevelop Riverfront Park.
The mayor said he plans to continue soliciting bids for the property and its demolition.
