Albany bars consider earlier closing time
When the clock strikes 2 a.m., your night in Albany may be tapped. A new proposal could have you calling a cab a couple hours earlier, a concept that's tough to swallow for some. Our Erin Connolly has reactions from people on all sides of the issue.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Last call at 2 a.m.? You soon may need to get that last round of drinks a little earlier in the City of Albany.
Patrick Davis of Albany said, ''Nothing good goes on after 2 anyways so I'm fine with it.''
Cheryl Dedes of Albany said, ''I think people will think it's ridiculous. I know I didn't appreciate bars closing at 2.''
Last week, Mayor Jerry Jennings asked bar owners to consider voluntarily shutting down 2 hours earlier, from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m. He said the change could help curb rowdy behavior, property damage, and even more serious crimes.
Mayor Jennings said, ''It's public safety not only for patrons but neighborhoods they're in. If someone leaves at 3 a.m. and they're walking alone, they could be accosted.''
While bar owners say they're willing to work with the mayor on a solution, they aren't sure closing early will reduce alcohol-related problems. They also want to make sure their businesses stay afloat.
John DeJohn, a local restaurant and bar owner, said, ''The main concern for most of the bar owners are revenue streams, keeping doors open and keep employees.''
This news has dampened the "spirits" of some, but others say they "straight up" think it's the right thing to do.
Davis said, ''Just all around the whole safety of the situation would be better and people would probably feel better the next day too.''
Current state and county laws do permit bars in Albany to close at 4 a.m. But the mayor said he'll continue discussions with bar owners and hope they'll give his suggestion "a shot."
