SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Wednesday marked what would be the 107th birthday of Dr. Seuss, one of the world's most beloved children's authors. In honor of his birthday, the Woodlawn Elementary School in Schenectady read some Dr. Seuss books to kindergarteners.

Wednesday was also a great way to spend the 13th Annual Read Across America Day by the National Education Association. One parent says it is important to promote reading in children while they are young.

"It helps promote reading, a love of reading, letting them know how useful reading is. I try to share with them that from getting into the car every day, morning to at home at night, you can use reading throughout the day," said Schenectady resident Charlene Donohue.

Some other Schenectady schools that participated are the Elmer Avenue Elementary School and the William C. Keane Elementary School.
