ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany Police Chief Steven Krokoff sat down with Talk 1300's Paul Vandenburgh Thursday to discuss the recent DWI arrest of Albany police spokesman James Miller.
Miller was driving without headlights when he was pulled over by Albany police last Friday at the corner of North Pearl and Orange streets. He was driving a department-issued vehicle at the time.
Miller was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a chemical test and driving without headlights. He was arraigned Monday and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
"Hope Jim Miller does well in whatever his future is," Chief Krokoff said. "He is a decent person. He deserves to do okay. I think the bigger question is the alcohol involvement in law enforcement. It has become an issue and been an issue in our department. I think it is coming more towards the forefront now because of what is coming an intolerance amongst the rank and file for that kind of conduct amongst the rank and file."
Miller, who is a 19-year veteran of the department, has been placed on unpaid leave.
