ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany celebrates the opening of two new affordable housing and neighborhood renewal projects.

The $10.1 million project is the second phase of Albany's South End revitalization. Through the project, dozens of apartments were built.

A $5 million grant was also given to the Albany Housing Authority from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The money will be used to develop a new early childhood education and adult training facility that will help adults find jobs.

"Education, training, the whole idea is to prepare people for the jobs of the future. Not too long from, now. We're talking about next year, the following year, preparing them for those kinds of jobs," said Albany Housing Authority, Director of Planning and Development, Darren Scott.

The Albany Housing Authority currently has an application in to continue to build more housing. They expect to hear back from the state and governor sometime next month.
