ALBANY, N.Y. -- The South Mall Expressway is scheduled to reopen Friday morning after undergoing repairs the past two weeks.

According to the Department of Transportation, the highway will reopen by 6 a.m.

The expressway was closed in both directions between the Empire State Plaza and the Dunn Memorial Bridge. Workers repaired cracks that were found in two of the road's support beams. They installed steel beams where the cracking occurred, in order to prevent additional cracking.

A permanent repair is slated for next year.
