ALBANY, N.Y. -- Party turned prostitution ring at the Regency lands two in jail and a 19-year-old running for her life.
"She got a call from her girlfriend Ciara Miller who said, let's go to New Paltz to go party," said Albany Police Spokesman James Miller.
Police said the 19-year-old Newburgh woman had accepted Miller's invite but never made it to New Paltz. Her ride to the party, 42-year-old Henry Douglas, drove the women straight to a rented hotel room in Albany instead.
"Over the course of two and a half days, they partied inside but also he was obviously running some type of prostitution ring or business from the hotel room which he advertised on this website," said Miller.
Police said Douglas posted Miller and the victim's photos on the site and pressured their participation, but the 19-year-old victim didn't want to stay.
"He forced her into prostitution by threatening to hurt her if she tried to leave or threatened to kill anybody who came to pick her up," said Miller.
But before midnight Sunday, the victim managed to escape to the neighboring Sunoco station and called 911.
"I don't really know the exact details of how she got away," said Miller. "He wasn't forcefully holding her there, more on the level of intimidation, threatening to hurt her if she tried and threatening to hurt her if she didn't comply with prostitution."
Police said Douglas has no prior record, and the Regency wouldn't comment about any previous visits. Douglas is charged with unlawful imprisonment and promoting prostitution. Miller is charged with prostitution.
