SCHENECTADY COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Town of Rotterdam has issued a mandatory evacuation for residents in the flood prone areas of Rotterdam Junction and Pattersonville. The evacuations include the south side of Main Street in Rotterdam Junction between the Rotterdam Junction Fire Department and Leggiero Lane, 1516 to 1600 Main Street, Ferry Street and Elm Street.

A voluntary evacuation has been issued across other parts of Schenectady County.

Police and fire officials are asking folks on parts of Route 5S to head out for their own safety.

Officials say because of elevated water levels, it's best to get out as early as possible.

Residents in Rotterdam are still picking up the pieces one week after Tropical Storm Irene caused the Mohawk River to rush through and ravage the town.

Rotterdam Junction Fire Chief Shawn Taylor says exit points in the town were damaged because of Irene and want to make sure folks don't get stuck in town Thursday.

Some folks in Rotterdam haven't been able to move back into their homes since Irene and crews have trucked more than 400 tons of garbage out of the hamlet.
