ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. -- As the temperatures begin to drop, Albany County officials want to make sure local homes are ready for winter.
The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Albany County and Albany County Executive Mike Breslin hosted Weatherization Day at the Feura Bush Senior Housing Complex on Thursday. The complex was recently weatherized, with improvements including energy saving lighting, water efficient shower heads, and newly sealed window and doors to keep more cold air out.
Officials said homeowners and renters can do all the same things, and save big.
Cornell Cooperative Extension Weatherization Director Butch Lawyer said, "This is probably allowing people to make sure they can buy their food, make sure they can get their prescriptions, which is getting harder and harder to do and getting harder for me to do. I feel their pain, so it's very important we save them this money."
If you're interested in weatherizing your home, there is financial assistance available through the Weatherization Assistance Program.
