ALBANY, N.Y. -- A local family was honored for their charitable work throughout the Capital Region.
The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region honored Matthew and Phoebe Bender and the Bender Family Foundation with the C. Jordan Vail Spirit of Philanthropy Award. Philanthropists, elected officials and local charities were all on hand for a luncheon in Albany.
The president of The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region says the award symbolizes their extra commitment to the community. She says the Benders have given not just money, but also their time to so many charities in need.
"They have given millions of dollars away to support important organizations, arts, children's camps, education. Really the whole gamut," said Karen Bilowith, President of the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region.
The Bender Family Foundation was established in 1997.
