Two teens are arrested for several burglaries in the City of Albany. As our Megan Cruz found out, police said this incident adds to the uptick in thefts they've already been seeing.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Two teens have been arrested in connection with several burglaries in the City of Albany.

Police said Claich Moukassa, 16, and a 15-year-old, whose name they're not releasing because of his age, were arrested around 6:00 am on Wednesday. That's after police received a call from a resident on Third Street saying the teens were going through a backpack.

When officers found them on the 800 block of Third Street, they searched the bag and found several stolen items, including GPS units, credit cards, and money. They also discovered the bikes the teens were riding were also stolen.

After further investigation, police said these items were stolen from a number of cars and garages in the Pine Hills and Buckingham Pond neighborhoods. Police spokesman Steve Smith said burglaries have been on the rise in the last couple months.

"Obviously lock all your windows, lock all your doors. We know it's summer time and people like to have their windows open. Even if you're going to go to the grocery store for a few minutes, lock your windows and lock your doors. It only takes a few minutes for burglars to go in and take stuff," said Smith.

He also wants to remind people not leave valuables in plain sight. The two teens face a slew of charges, including burglary, grand larceny, petit larceny, and criminal possession of stolen property.
