With just 139 votes separating Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk and Republican George Amedore, we knew this race would go to the courts. Amedore has fired first, filing suit Wednesday to impound all paper ballots in the five-county 46th State Senate District.

If the order is signed, which is likely, a judge will supervise and set a schedule for counting roughly 7,500 absentee ballots over the coming weeks.

The 46th Senate District was carved out by the GOP earlier this year during the redistricting process. It cuts through five counties in the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, and Mohawk Valley.
